Using the text editor

When you clock on "Edit Syllabus Description" you will be able to edit the syllabus page. You will notice a text editor bar with a series of buttons. Below is a descriptive image:

Text format - Simple text editing tools to make text Bold, change colors, etc.

Clear formatting - If you are copying text from a word processing program (Microsoft Word), it is recommended you paste the text, highlight the pasted text and click on clear formatting. Word processing programs add hidden lines of code to text which can cause spacing issues when put onto a webpage.

Alignment, Spacing and listing - Change the alignment of a block of text. Create bulleted or numbered lists.

Add media - Canvas allows users (both teachers and students) to use a webcam and microphone to record video and audio. Once recorded the video or audio file will be embedded right into the text editor.

Text style and font size - Quickly stylize your text as well as change the size of the font.

Math equation - Insert symbols to create a math equation. Canvas will also recognize LatTeX format.

Add an image - If you have an image on another website you would like to embed, you can click the add image button and enter the URL. This is different than uploading an image into your course.

Add a link - Insert a URL into the editor.

Add a table - Insert a table into the editor.

You will find the text editor throughout your course site (Discussion board, creating assignments, announcements, etc.). Students also have access to the same text editor when working in the discussion board, and completing assignments.
