Description: Student engagement occurs at many levels and in various venues within the University. This panel will include three specific examples of initiatives that, while diverse in scope and setting, have all fostered student engagement. Panelists will briefly introduce their initiatives and the resulting impact on students. Then, the moderator will ask panelists to address a series of questions focusing on the genesis of their initiative, their objectives for student participants, efforts to build support and garner resources, and methods for evaluating impact on student engagement. Attendees will then be invited to share their initiatives or ideas and receive panelist input.

Session I - Incorporating Community-based Service Learning in Your Courses

Description: This session will explore the service-learning process and provide a unique opportunity to obtain assistance in incorporating community-based service learning experiences in a variety of courses to promote civic engagement. Strategies that will help your students combine newly-acquired academic and intellectual skills with service activities in relevant, meaningful and challenging ways will be highlighted.

Session J - Use of Holistic Working Model to Build Critical Thinking Capabilities

Presenter: Joe Kim
Description: In this session, the presenter will discuss the purpose of the Critical Thinking (CT) model and explain how the model is constructed. He will then demonstrate the power of the model by analyzing the logic on which it is based. Finally, he will address the question of how to make the model work with students.
